Terry, before I read this I would have y sweet gum tree on our farm removed if I had the money.
I had to clear some from pasture area for horses, but plenty of them left in woods on N.E. sides of the house, so we see a lot of Luna Moths. The only problem with Sweetgums is the thorny balls they shed.
The balls can be problematic. In fact, they are the reason many people remove them from their yards. It is definitely one of our least appreciated wildlife plants.
